Join Dennis Hock for the release of his new book, Bringing Birds Through Stone. Frank Dixon Graham will share an array of new poetry. Dennis Hock, a retired college English professor, likes to get involved in efforts to improve underserved local communities. A lifelong activist, he serves as a volunteer resource counselor for the Sacramento-area homeless. He has also worked in hospitals and retreat centers with grief therapy groups that use expressive writing as a healing process. Dennis’ poems have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies. He has written two books of poetry: The Secret Cup: Poems of Grief and Healing (2007) and Bringing Birds Through Stone (2015). Frank Dixon Graham is Editor in Chief of Tule Review, a poetry anthology published annually that has been in operation for 20 years. He is also Fiction Editor of Pitkin Review. Graham organized Poets for Peace during the War on Iraq. He has served on the board of the Sacramento Poetry Center for almost ten years and the projects he has founded with SPC include Literary Lectures and 5th Monday Charity Benefit Readings. His work is published in Harvard University's Scriptorium Journal, Hawaii Pacific Review, Evansville Review and others. Graham will hold an MFA from Goddard College in July 2015. The Mosaic of Voices reading series is hosted by Nancy Aidé González. The series promotes an appreciation and understanding of contemporary poetry in a wide array of forms and styles. The series goal is to bring together poets, scholars, students, and the public for purposes of establishing strong links with the community through the dynamic vehicle of poetry. It is a showcase for Northern California poets to share their work.
