Closing Reception is 11AM-2PM but 1:15PM the artist will be speaking about his work. Recently, there has been an increased focus in uncovering queer aspects of history and re-analyzing the past and present around contemporary queer perspectives. This disclosure attempts to expand the conversation by revealing an identity that has historically been hidden or marginalized. Post-Glitter takes inspiration from this queerifying approach as well as the Internet meme, social media, and appropriation. The imagery acts as a catalyst for renegotiating our understanding of power/knowledge by using iconic images or graphics found from various sources. My goal is to stain notions of history and contemporary culture by re-appropriating the image and the narration that it contains. It is through this stain that our relationship with this visual information gets disrupted and a queer history, that has always been present, rises to the surface.
