For information call 212-255-4037 or visit www.villagevanguard.com. “In early 2017 John Zorn has invited me to collaborate on his new Masada project, based on his latest songs from the Masada repertoire. The first result of this collaboration was a recording made together with Craig Taborn in June 2017 for Tzadik records. Both Craig and I play solo piano pieces as well as two duets on that recording, which has not yet been released,” says Neselovskyi. “After this recording session John suggested that I expand this music into a piano trio format and present it during his week at the Village Vanguard. Naturally, I embraced this opportunity. My trio and I worked very hard and I have to say that the process has been very inspiring. John Zorn's music has created contexts, textures and rhythmic concepts that we haven't encountered before. I strongly feel that this work will also have an influence on my own music and on our trio sound.” This is just one of many Neselovskyi’s projects. His most recent recording Get Up and Go, released in May 2017 via Jazz Family and Neuklang Records, was inspired by the political turmoil in his native Ukraine. When Neselovskyi and his trio arrived at the Alfa Jazz festival in June 2014, they had planned an upbeat, playful set appropriate to an open-air summer festival. Only ten minutes before they were to take the stage, the promoter announced that a Ukrainian military plane had been shot down by separatists and that the entire country was in mourning. Neselovskyi sat down at the piano, faced not with a crowd of eager revelers but with a somber audience holding candles, tears streaming down their faces. The result is a deeply emotional performance and an album that has earned wide international praise.
