Brokenmold Entertainment presents: Acme Jazz Garage Sunday April 3 Ella's Americana Folk Art Cafe 4-7pm / FREE http://www.acmejazzgarage.com Jazz, blues, funk, fusion and New Orleans grooves meet in the music of Acme Jazz Garage, whose recordings have been played on WMNF, 88.5 and WUSF, 89.7. The Tampa band, heard at the Gasparilla Music Festival and Clearwater Jazz Holiday, features guitarist Matt Swenson, pianist/keyboardist Bryan Lewis, bassist Philip Booth and drummer Tim Diehl. Acme Jazz Garage in 2016 is releasing its first full-length recording of original music, on the Solar Grooves label. The CD is an all-star effort with the band joined by guests including conga master Gumbi Ortiz, singer Whitney James, NYC saxophonist Jeremy Powell and veteran players Rick Runion and Austin Vickrey on saxophones, trumpeter Ron Wilder, and vibraphonist Sam Koppelman. The self-titled release was recorded and mixed at the Springs Theater in Seminole Heights and mastered in L.A. Acme plays every Thursday and Friday at Timpano in Hyde Park, and also can be seen at The Independent, The Ale & the Witch, and Dunedin Brewery. The band additionally has played the Gasparilla Festival of the Arts, Clearwater Jazz Holiday, Friday Extra Concert Series, Tampa Museum of Art, Skipper's Smokehouse, New World Brewery, Saturday Morning Market in St. Petersburg, and other venues, festivals, and special events. PHILIP BOOTH (bass) has played with Trio Vibe, Greenwich Blue, various trios and quartets under his name, jam/improv bands Ghetto Love Sugar and the Jonathan Powell Quartet, spoken-word outfit The Irritable Tribe of Poets, and other jazz, rock, and blues acts. Philip and Acme guitarist Matt Swenson play together in the Juke Joint Kings and the Blue Guava Orchestra. Philip did one-off gigs with rock legend Bo Diddley, jazz master Larry Coryell, and Nat Adderley sidemen including "Kind of Blue" drummer Jimmy Cobb. He produced and played on the 1996 compilation CD "Monk in the Sun," featuring Jeff Berlin, and the late Nat Adderley and Kenny Drew, Jr. TIM DIEHL (drums) toured the Southeast with show bands before landing a Disney World house gig with the Macar Brothers. He founded The Bank and Jazztek and was the house drummer for one of Tampa’s most popular nightclubs. The drummer for Hyde Park United Methodist Church since 2004, Tim is also a teacher and clinician. Tim and Acme keyboardist Bryan Lewis also play together in Take Cover. The USF graduate played with the jazz and symphonic bands, and the percussion ensemble. MATT SWENSON (guitar) has shared stages with the area's best blues, R&B, and jazz musicians, working with a diverse group of musicians including boogie-woogie piano master Mitch Woods, blues harmonica legend Rock Bottom, The Backbreakers, Juke Joint Kings, TBone Hamilton, DW Gill, Willie Lomax, Will Quinlan, and Julie Black. Freddie King, Kenny Burrell and Cornell Dupree are among his influences. BRYAN LEWIS (piano/keys), also plays with jazz-funk band Serotonic, The 3rd Kind, Lucky Penny, and other Tampa Bay area groups. He teaches piano privately and online.
