With the recent passing of Act 139, pharmacists in Pennsylvania are able to dispense naloxone, an overdose reversal agent, without a prescription under a standing order from the Physician General. Naloxone is a non-abusable agent used to treat opioid overdose and can either be administered intranasally or intramuscularly. Please join us for a night of community engagement where student pharmacists from Duquesne's Mylan School of Pharmacy will teach participants to recognize the signs and symptoms of an overdose, appropriately respond, and how naloxone fits into the equation. Placebos will be available to give participants the opportunity to handle the devices to get hands on experience with the agents. Information about resources available to the community as well as how individuals can obtain and carry the reversal agent will be presented. ARC Manor will be present at the event to provide information on community based resources that exist within Armstrong County. The heroin epidemic has had profound impacts on our community, and while we recognize that naloxone is not the solution to the problem, it is a valuable risk reduction tool, which up until this point, has been underutilized. Light food and beverage will be provided. The event is free and open to anyone interested in learning more about naloxone rescue. We hope to see you there.
