The first project debuted in May 2010 with over 44 murals and each year since, spectacular crews of legendary and groundbreaking artists have come together to transform the neighborhood into a creative celebration and unique public art experience. These renowned artists create site-specific works to provide new arrays of visual experiences which change how people experience and interact with their environment. This grassroots project has received remarkable acclaim as it unites artists from the block with artists from around the world directly in the heart of this eclectic community. The WCMP was featured during Open House New York's (OHNY) 2014 citywide tour last October, which brought many new visitors out to this Queens gem. Artists Include: Abe Lincoln, Jr., AM, Alison Buxton, Beau Stanton, Billy Mode, Bishop, Cake, Caleb Neelon, Cern, Christopher Cardinale, Chris RWK, Chris Soria, Chris Stain, Chuck Berrett, Col Wallnuts, Dan Witz, Damien Mitchell, Danielle Mastrion, Dennis McNett, Depoe, Don Leicht, El Kamino, Elle, Ellis Gallagher, EpicUno, Eric Richardson, Esteban delValle, Free5, Fumero, Garrison Buxton, Gilf!, Greg Lamarche, Hellbent, Icy & Sot, JC, Jerms, Joe Iurato, John Breiner, John Fekner, Kaffeine, Katie Yamasaki, Kid Lew, Kimyon Huggins, KR One, Kris Kanaly, Lady Pink, Lexi Bella, Lmnopi, LogikOne, MagdaLove, Mare139, Mastro, Matthew Ellis, Mike Fitzimmons, Never, ND’A, Panic, Peat Wollaeger, Praxis, Pyramid Oracle, Python, Queen Andrea, R. This sixth round continues the project’s tradition of showcasing the artistry during an annual block party. Here the multifaceted hosts display their cultural culinary, music, and dance skills. While this tiny neighborhood provides some major ambience & hospitality, it cannot provide for all attendees, so think of this as a big picnic-potluck-art-fun-social happening and bring some of your favorite tasty foods, beverages, or other contributions to share. * HELP AND ASSISTANCE * If you would like to support this project, there are many ways to contribute. - Fiscal contributions are very awesome (and tax deductible). - Materials and tools like spray paint, bucket paint, primer, paint rollers/brushes/pans, ladders, scaffolding, etc. are always useful and appreciated. - VOLUNTEER! If you would like to help out, there are many ways to get involved through volunteering. We appreciate and need your assistance to make this as amazing as possible. Some areas of interest: social media/outreach, press/PR, PAs, videography, on-site support, manning greeting locations & looking after residents, artists, and attendees. * In addition to the murals and festivities, there are special events and projects happening throughout the day, such as: - Art activities taught by participating artists. - Music from the eclectic AtotheK & Sleptember, and more of our favorite DJ’s blending sublime block party beats to massage your eardrums and keep your heart beating strong. Bring food, water, and things to share with your creative comrades while experiencing stupendous art & aural delights.
