Vena Cava Productions smashes into the second half of the year with the upcoming UBU ROI, directed by Dash Kruck. Crass, grotesque, and fiercely political. Ubu Roi (Ubu the King) is one of the first pieces of theatre to play with elements of absurdism and surrealism. It caused riots when it was performed in Paris 1896. The play tells the story of Papa Ubu, an infantile megalomaniac who will stop at nothing to get more money and power. He is urged on by his equally disgusting wife, whom he hates. Money, blood, guts and a special guest appearance by Campbell Newman… Who could ask for more? Don’t come expecting a well made play. This is rough, raw and grotesque.
