We would like to invite you to the Home of the Late Vervia Todd to the most amazing find of Vintage Clothing, accessories & fabrics. Vervia was a true collector extraordinaire, who throughout her lifetime amassed a huge collection of fashions that we now regard as vintage. Together with that of her late mothers Edwardian and 1920's pieces this is a truly once in a lifetime find and opportunity to purchase pieces of fashion history. Vervias home is in Houghton le spring, County Durham, nestled in the lea of limestone cliffs it dates back to Saxon & Norman times. Vervia spent her whole life within the family home and traveled extensively within the uk and the continent. The larger part of the collection was found tucked away in the attic in boxes, trunks, drawers and even up the chimney. None of the pieces had seen the light of day for the last 30 years, until late last year, this was when the executors started their journey of Vervias life through her clothes. Cllr Sheila Ellis and Dr Ann Brough have spent the last year lovingly breathing life back into the pieces cleaning, ironing and dating even replacing buttons and restoring some of the pieces using the hoard of haberdashery that was also found within the house, though most of the dresses have only been worn a few times and in pristine condition. The items up for sale will include ladies daywear, eveningwear and accessories in a range of sizes with the majority being size 8-14. Accessories include unused bags, shoes, hats gloves and cosmetics, shoe sizes range from 3-6 some still in original boxes. A collection of fabrics and other sewing paraphernalia dating back to the 1920's will also be available to buy. Due to the sale taking place in Vervias house we can only admit a limited number, 150 tickets will be available with guaranteed entrance at £15 . For the entrance fee the ticket holders will get exclusive shopping within the house between the hours of 10am-1pm this will also include festive refreshments. After 1pm pay on the door entrance will be on a one in one out basis at £5 On the day the family will be there to chat to about Vervia and her fascinating life as we all love nothing better than a story about the vintage pieces we buy and we will also have a team of personal shoppers on hand to assist you. Myself and Michael will be there to give advice on the pieces and styling your vintage finds. Krista Puranen Wilson from Kota Styling will also be joining us to give you styling advice.
